Alright so I want to re play 1 and only 1 character to work on my HoM. This guy will be my Farmer, PvE, PvP, Runner, whatever I need him to be character. My questions to you is would a Dervish or a Ranger fit this role more appropriately? I have little to no knowledge of these 2 classes as of know, (I used to play them but with updates and skill changes they have both changed) So I ask what is the most appropriate of these 2 to fit my needs? Thank you all in advance.

Dervish.
But really he should be an Assassin.

Rangers pretty much suck at PvE and things look set to stay that way. Melee physicals dominate.
But be warned that an update is going in with the aim to weaken Dervs for PvP, but you really should be creating a PvP character to PvP on.

Id read gwpvx on farming builds for teams and solo then check on here for more info - this gets you the idea of what chrs will suit you for what you want to farm.
Derv is slightly ( guessing in pve ) probably more favored than ranger - you`re after farming so finding farms you can do with ranger may be slow and even slower for any real decent team farms ( sc`s included ).Altho a aranger can do spirit spammer on quite a few farms its still sort of down to actual farm or being able to get into other high end farms as ranger - infact i cant even suggest which to use myself.Derv update is due in a few days so thats going to affect any pvp farming as derv possibly , you never know if anets got any ranger skill nerfs/buffs due .

i had no problems reaching gwamm or 50/50 with my ranger. the nice part about using a ranger is that simple fact it's the jack of all trades. it's not very hard to come up with "dare i say it" a bar that is anything but "traditional omg he sux cuz he has a bow" build to use. you can solo farm with a ranger, do UWSC with a ranger, run several dungeons solo, pvp, run from point to point.

now granted i'm not trying to say one class is better than another. each has their own advantages/disadvantages. it's up to you to find one you feel comfortable playing and be able to think outside the box.

Very true. I have played a ranger for six years. Coming up with new builds is not a problem, if you are creative.

heyo.. no details here, have played simply to many class combo's to elaborate. so.. this topic kinda caught my eye as i just started fresh for the fun of it, like yourself.

it's ironic, but the class I chose was a derv/ranger (much to the nonsense advice my good friends seem willing to throw out there)

why? its fun.

Mysticism just by itself is a wonderfull addition with bow skills. ie, mystic vigor/volley or barrage as an example. maybe add sunspear "never rampage alone" and "heal as one" for the pet. Faithfull intervention, and sunspear "eternal aura".. and you can easily run two +2 skillers and still have close to 600hp. basically you a regen monster for pve. carry more hp than your heroes or henchies making the mob AI typicaly choose someone else to pick on and survivor title just got that much easier.

lets not leave out the 8p "mystic sandstorm" or "mystic twister" that fires off adren instead of precious FOUR PIP regen. ect ect ect. let you mind play with the combos. (ps. pet damage is armor ignor as you remember)

PVP? no different. take out the pve only's and do your job with rupts, crips and OH WAIT A MINUTE.. hot switch to melee. yes.. it's doable.

runner? THE two best professions for runner imo. they cycle extremely well and both classes have a healthy amount to choose from.

signets? yup.

most importantly the ability to switch out your secondary easily. again with 4 pip regen, excellent enchant insignia, and decent AOE (burns/weakness/crips) you can do quite well.

i did mention its fun right?

look.. lotta folks gonna tell you different. melee this, melee that. cant do enough damage in "hard mode".. cant mitigate enough elemental in "hard mode".. yaddayaddayadda. set... your.. heroes.. up... properly. and you wont have these issues.

my current lv. 18. my board:
1. dshot, 2. volley, 3. mystic corrupt/zealous renewal/mystic twister or sandstorm (or whateva). 4. Nv rampage alone, 5. mystic vig, 6. pet, 7. faithfull intervention, 8. eternal aura. and it's a blast!

one last note. Avatars.

done
have fun.
cheers

The sticky guide at the top of this section as well as this article thread in The Riverside Inn section pretty much outlines what steps is needed to fill out the HoM. See also the "Guide to becoming a "God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals" thread.

Personally, I would go with a Ritualist character. However, if choosing between a Ranger and Dervish, I would go with the Ranger, starting out in Factions. IMO Factions characters are easier to level up, and rangers have access to more elite armour sets than Dervishes do.

That being said ??? pretty much any character you choose can obtain 30/50, even 50/50 on the HoM Calculator ??? it just takes time and money ??? lots and lots of money.

The items for Devotion (mini pets) and Valor (Destroyer, Tormented, and Oppressor weapons) can be purchased/obtained from other players. (The same for the armor remnants pieces needed to upgrade your heroes.)

If you wish to attempt to "earn" these weapons yourself, Destroyer weapons may be the easiest set to get.

When it comes to the Resilience category, the core professions have an advantage over both Faction/Nightfall specific classes. The most that Paragon and Dervish characters can hope for is 7/8 in this category and that includes obtaining the most costly armour in the game: Obsidian and Vabbian. The Elite Kurzick/Luxon armour sets are not available to Paragon and Dervish professions. In addition to this, Primeval armour is not accessible until your character completes the last mission in Nightfall.

Speaking of which ??? filling out the Fellowship category requires your character to complete the last mission in Nightfall to gain access to Razah and at least two other Nightfall heroes.

Regardless of your character profession, you can hero/hench your way through most/all PvE titles that are required for the Honor Category. With 7-heroes parties now, most titles are a lot easier and quicker to obtain now. (Quickest way to get level 20 heroes is to purchase a mercenary hero pack from the online store then register a newly created PvP character as the "mould" for any hero profession of your choosing. The Wiki has details on how to do this.)

However, if you prefer the company of humans some professions will have an easier time getting into groups than other professions, especially in the higher elite areas of the game.

But reaching 30/50 is possible without completing or even going into any of the higher elite areas.

Making cash will be your biggest concern; you will likely be centring your moneymaking activities on one or more of the following areas: farming (materials, items, speed clears, dailies/weekly), trading/selling, and services (running, mission rushing, speed booking, dungeon clearing, etc.). Certain character classes are better suited (and expected) for certain areas than other classes. PvX lists various farming builds for various professions. IMO getting into various UW/FOW speed clear groups may be the fastest return on time/investment for earning cash. Farming materials and trophies can be easily done with a handful of "known builds".

Guru has various forum sections dedicated to all aspects of the game, including profession-based, farming, and high level elite areas of the game. As well, both GW Wikis have various guides (such as here and here).

Take everything stated here and elsewhere with a grain of salt. If you would like to play a Dervish then by all means play one. Same if you choose a Ranger or any other character. The above mentioned resources (including the various embedded links) should provide a possible path for your character to be "whatever you need him to be".

If you are looking for a "start-up" guide, this thread may have some useful information for you.
